His action follows strikes in Iraq and Syria.
President Joe Biden sent a letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana and Senate Pro Tempore Patty Murray of Washington notifying Congress of the targeted strikes that he ordered last week against weapons depots of Iranian proxy groups in Iraq and Syria.
He explained his rationale for ordering retaliatory strikes and promised to “take further action” if further attacks were made against U.S. bases and troops in the region.
President Biden said, “I directed the strikes in order to protect and defend our personnel, to degrade and disrupt the ongoing series of attacks against the United States and our partners, and to deter Iran and Iran-backed militia groups from conducting or supporting further attacks on United States personnel and facilities.”
He said, “The United States stands ready to take further action, as necessary and appropriate, to address further threats or attacks.”
Under the Constitution, the president is required to notify Congress of the use of military force under the War Powers Resolution.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For safety for American troops deployed in the Middle East and around the world.
- For wisdom for the president and his military advisors as they respond to attacks on U.S. troops.
